Hell or High Water - Louisville, Kentucky

Hell or High Water will absolutely make you feel like a whiskey drinking gentlemen. This downstairs prohibition style speakeasy is located right in the heart of Whiskey Row. The entrance doesn’t exactly scream ‘bar’, but that’s kind of the whole point of a speakeasy. This truly feels like a place you need to be told about in order to even know it exists. Upon entering, I walk into what feels like an apartment, a small room covered in framed photographs. There’s a door blended in with the wall of photographs that pops open and reveals the stairs down to the main bar area. Once downstairs, there’s a hallway leading to a long, dimly lit bar with a wide array of liquor choices. As expected, they have a vast selection of Kentucky bourbon. I’ve included their cocktail menu below as it showcases some of their delicious and creative drinkable creations. As far as service and quality of the drinks, this place is right up there with Manhattan speakeasies. As far as the ambiance, it was exactly the vibe I was looking for. I knew I heard a saxophone coming from somewhere, so I continued to explore. In the next room over from the initial bar, there was a large room lined with velvet couches that led into the room the band was occupying. There was a killer jazz trio laying it down, so I took a seat in one of the velvet chairs and sipped my bourbon. If you’re in the Louisville area this is a fantastic spot to relax and enjoy a drink with a touch of class.
